Summer Camp Counselor

$11.50 per hour

This is a seasonal full or part time position responsible for providing a safe, caring and enriching learning environment for children in summer camp. Counselors are responsible for leading groups of students in assigned activities, safeguarding students, and implementing discipline procedures.

  • Keep a consistent headcount on all children present at site; communicate changes with all other staff and maintain accurate documentation of attendance, behavior and incidents for each child.
  • Consistently demonstrate positive discipline; firmly and consistently enforce the rules; express clear expectations and accountability; ensure that reprimand fits the misbehavior.
  • Assist Lead Instructors (Teachers) with and actively participate in program activities.
  • Provide proper, and continuous, supervision for assigned group during all activities, while adhering to KeepSAfe policies and protocols.
  • Consistently adhere and implement the process for child release from program to parent or authorized guardian.
  • Assist in maintaining clean-up schedules to maintain the cleanliness of the Kroc Center including completion of task listed on daily clean-up check list.
  • Help children to develop a positive self-esteem and sense of self-worth.
  • Communicate with the After School & Camp Supervisor & Team Leader regularly regarding concerns/issues with the program, children, parents or co-workers.
  • Adhere to and ensure adherence to policies and procedures as stated in manuals, trainings and meetings, including those of the Kroc Center, The Salvation Army, Summer Food Service Program, NJ Department of Health, and KeepSAfe protocols.
  • Ensure that the ultimate goal of spiritual, emotional and physical development of all people is represented and infused in all activities.
  • Attend all assigned meetings and trainings, including weekly staff meetings, as scheduled.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Obtain fingerprinting
  • Obtain a negative TB results
  • Obtain physical indicating ability to work with children
  • At least 18 years old
  • Available to work June 22-August 21
