The Community Schools Intern supports the implementation of high-quality afterschool programming at two Community Schools within the Allentown School District. Under the supervision of the Community School Coordinator (CSC), the intern assists with planning, coordinating, and facilitating enrichment activities that promote academic success, social-emotional learning, and positive youth development. This internship provides valuable hands-on experience in youth programming, education, and community engagement while supporting the goals of the Community Schools model. This is a 20-hour-per-week internship that runs from October 1 through April 30, with a schedule of Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Time will be split between two Community Schools in the Allentown School District. The primary responsibility of this position is supporting afterschool programming by helping to plan and facilitate engaging educational, recreational, and enrichment activities for students. The intern will assist with preparing materials, supervising activities, encouraging student participation, creating a safe and inclusive environment, monitoring attendance and participation, collecting basic program data, and providing feedback to the Community School Coordinator to support continuous program improvement.
The intern will build positive relationships with students, school staff, families, community partners, and volunteers while representing the Community Schools initiative in a professional manner. The intern will follow all school district policies and procedures related to student safety, confidentiality, and program operations, assist with maintaining required program documentation, and perform other duties as assigned by the Community School Coordinator.

General Internship Information
- Internships at UWGLV are available in most of our business areas year-round. We are highly flexible with start and end dates for internships.
- Open to individuals of any age over 14, in a formal educational program or not, who demonstrate they are developing new professional skills and would benefit from the opportunity to work and learn in our organization.
- Will work on projects that go beyond that which the organization expected to accomplish with regular employees and which are not core to the achievement of the organization's mission.
- An intern is expected to get as much from the work experience at UWGLV as UWGLV gets from the intern. The supervisor of an intern anticipates a "break-even" exchange of time invested in mentoring the intern versus work product contributed to the organization.
- It is not the purpose or intention of this program to allow prospective employees to "work for free" to demonstrate their skill set or prove their suitability for employment.
- May serve as an intern for no more than 1 year or no more than 950 hours.
- At least 18 years old
- Have a HS diploma or G.E.D.
- Able to report in person for work in Lehigh, Northampton or Carbon counties.
- Able to secure clearances to work with vulnerable populations (Act 153).
