AOI Operator

Garland, TX

Full-Time

We are seeking a meticulous and quality-driven AOI Operator to join our Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) team. As an AOI Operator, you serve as a critical checkpoint in our manufacturing process, responsible for operating Automated Optical Inspection equipment to verify the placement and solder quality of electronic components. The ideal candidate possesses a sharp eye for detail, a strong understanding of IPC-A-610 standards, and the ability to distinguish between machine false calls and genuine manufacturing defects.

#IND1
Our staffing professionals are committed to meeting your individual needs and exceeding your expectations. Experienced top-quality candidates are the result of our extensive screening process, in-depth evaluations, industry-specific testing, and reference checking.
Key Responsibilities
  • Machine Operation: Setup, load, and operate Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) machines safely and efficiently to inspect populated circuit boards after the SMT reflow process.
  • Defect Analysis & Verification: Review machine-flagged anomalies on the monitor to determine if they are true defects (e.g., missing components, tombstoning, solder bridges, insufficient solder, incorrect polarity) or false calls.
  • Quality Routing: Accurately mark, route, and document defective boards for the rework/hand-soldering team, providing clear descriptions of the specific defects found.
  • Process Feedback: Communicate true defect trends in real-time to the SMT Line Operators and Process Engineers to help correct upstream manufacturing issues and reduce scrap.
  • Program Optimization: Assist engineers or programmers in fine-tuning AOI machine parameters (lighting, tolerances, and component libraries) to reduce the false-call rate.
  • Documentation & Traceability: Maintain accurate digital and physical records of inspection results, pass/fail yields, and specific lot traceabilities in the ERP/MRP system in compliance with AS9100D and ISO 13485 standards.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform basic daily and weekly preventative maintenance on the AOI equipment, such as cleaning lenses and sensors, to ensure optimal machine performance.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in electronics manufacturing, specifically in quality inspection, AOI operation, or SMT production.
  • Standards Proficiency: Current or previous certification in IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) is highly preferred. Must understand what constitutes an acceptable vs. defective solder joint.
  • Component Recognition: Strong ability to identify various surface mount and through-hole electronic components, read component values, and understand polarity marks.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional visual acuity and the ability to maintain focus while reviewing highly repetitive, detailed images for extended periods.
  • Computer Fluency: Comfortable navigating Windows-based machine software, ERP systems, and digital quality logs.
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills to effectively relay quality data to the SMT and engineering teams.
Physical Requirements
  • Excellent close vision, depth perception, and the ability to accurately differentiate colors (crucial for inspecting solder reflections and component markings).
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while monitoring computer screens and handling delicate PCBAs.
  • Manual dexterity to safely load, unload, and handle sensitive electronic assemblies without causing ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) damage.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 15-20 lbs (e.g., stacks of completed boards or magazines).
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
  • Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
  • Accept a background check to be performed
  • Accept a drug test to be performed
  • Knowledge in: Hand Soldering
  • Knowledge in: PCBA Defect Analysis
  • Knowledge in: Component Recognition
  • Knowledge in: IPC-610
  • Knowledge in: Automated Optical Inspection
  • Knowledge in: Defect Analysis
