The Social Media Manager will lead and grow our national and local social media presence. This role will be responsible for developing and executing SUN's social media strategy and supporting our on-the-ground staff in fourteen states/locations to maximize their local social media and listserv efforts. As part of the Marketing and Communications Team, they will collaborate within and across departments to amplify the work of national and local teams. They will also help position SUN on social media as a thought leader for solar energy, a mobilizer of activists, and an educator on how everyone can go solar.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in managing social media for nonprofits, activist groups, or political organizations and has an understanding of, and commitment to SUN's mission and vision. The Social Media Manager should be someone who gets excited about experimenting, trying new ideas, failing fast and moving on, and understands that good ideas come from anywhere. This position is perfect for someone who wants to help build the social media strategy of a fast-growing organization from the ground up. If you love to stay on top of trends, pop into Canva to create quick graphics, look through data and analytics, all while thinking about the big picture, then this position is for you.

Job responsibilities include:
Social media strategy and management (40%) * Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy that aligns with SUN's mission of helping people go solar and fight for their energy rights. * Manage SUN's national social media accounts - including Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn - ensuring consistent branding and messaging across all platforms. * Recommend, oversee, and analyze new platform presence that would expand SUN's reach. * Identify key target audiences for each platform and develop content output, posting schedule, and new opportunities. * Monitor accounts and respond to emerging conversations, trends, and other online moments can be leveraged. * Consult with our national Policy & Advocacy; Community Impact; Development; Go Solar; and Energy, Equity, & Inclusion teams on how to best amplify their efforts. * Create and curate engaging, informative, and action-driven content to educate and inspire our audience on the benefits of solar energy, renewable energy policies, and solar initiatives. * Monitor and report on social media performance metrics - including campaigns, user engagement, and conversions, adjusting strategies as needed to improve effectiveness.
Content creation and community engagement (30%) * Collaborate with SUN's Marcomms Team to produce creative assets (graphics, videos, infographics, etc.) that drive engagement, move people toward action, and help disambiguate solar energy and the process of going solar. * Support acquiring/creating images and videos with a dispersed team. * Brainstorm how to strategically reuse SUN's library of content (webinars, guides, and other resources) for social media content. * Engage with followers, respond to comments, and foster a sense of community across all platforms. * Stay informed on trends in social media, renewable energy, and advocacy to keep content fresh and relevant. * Continuously audit all social media platforms to maximize seamless user experience that connects dots from social to web to email.
Support for local social media efforts (20%) * Serve as a social media advisor for our on-the-ground staff in fourteen states and territories, helping them to develop localized or evergreen content that resonates with their communities. * Assist local teams in managing their Facebook Groups and email listservs, providing best practices, content ideas, and guidance on how to promote local events, advocacy campaigns, and educational initiatives. * Develop guidelines and resources for local staff to enhance their use of social media and listservs, ensuring consistent messaging while allowing for local customization.
Organization-wide administration (10%) * Show up fully for learning and planning and activities, including all-staff meetings, retreats, and strategy sessions. * Facilitate meetings, prepare agendas, and take notes. * Supervise staff and external consultants as needed to ensure departmental goals are clearly communicated and consistently managed. * As a key member of the team, contribute to brainstorming, developing, and executing new ideas. * Manage your own regular administration, including timely submission of timesheets, receipts, reimbursements, scheduling, travel planning, and HR paperwork. * Other duties as assigned.
